Festival of Holiday Sip and Savor Pass! December 2018

We were at the Disneyland Resort this last week
(December 17-22, 2018)
for the Festival of Holidays.

California Adventure had food carts all over the park where you could try some different things.  When they do these things they offer a Sip and Savor Pass.  For Annual Passholders it was $49 - with that you get to try 8 items.  These can be from any of the 12 carts they have.

Chris and I ate our way through DCA that day!  We bought 1 pass and shared each item.  It was enough food!  That Sip and Savor Pass fed both of us for a whole day!  Well, with a snack or 2 thrown in for fun!  :)

Ralph Breaks the internet Review

What a fun movie!  It had the same feel as "Wreck It Ralph", but with a new story, new characters and a twist!

Towards the beginning Ralph poses an interesting question:

“Why would I wonder if there’s a better life, when the life I have is perfect?”

That's an interesting thought.  She people are happy with things staying the same, others crave change.  Hmmm.....

I enjoyed all of the cameos in it - especially all the Disney characters.  The scenes with Vanellope and the Disney Princesses had me on the floor laughing!  So funny, and imaginative!  There were many cameos that I thought were fun!  I’ll share a few in the next section of the review - it’ll be in the *Spoilers* section.  Don’t read it if you don’t want to know!  :)  Read it after you’ve seen it and let me know if you agree with me.  :)

It also has a few good messages in it.  Things we all need to remember:
  1. Yesss (a new character voiced by Taraji P. Henson) tells Ralph:  “The first rule of the internet: don’t read the comments.”  Good advice!
  2. Rapunzel, with the other Disney Princesses, asks Vanellope:  “Do people assume all your problems got solved because a big strong man showed up?”  Vanellope says “Yes!  What is up with that?”  It’s a moment that tells us that it’s a dumb idea.  Women don’t need a big, strong man to solve our problems.  But we can certainly love a big, strong man!  :)
  3. This one I will share in the *Spoiler* section (just click “Read More” below, if interested)

Just 3 things you might want to be prepared for if you’re taking kids:
  • There’s a brief burping contest.   (which is funny, but I know it bothers some people)
  • There is a glimpse of a scary clown - it creeped me out for the 3 seconds it’s on screen.  (Scary like Pennywise from “It”.  So be prepared for that if your child notices it.)
  • Double Dan from the darknet - really creepy looking - that’s the thing with the head in his neck - he’s in the preview.

In case you don’t know the plot of this one:

Six years after the events of the first film, the steering wheel controller on the Sugar Rush game console breaks, forcing Mr. Litwak to unplug the machine. Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz evacuate all of the Sugar Rush residents to other games before it is shut down, placing the racers in the care of Fix-It Felix Jr. and Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun. Ralph and Vanellope then use the arcade's new connection to the Internet to go looking for a replacement steering wheel. While they find a source for a replacement wheel, they need money, leading them to join a free-to-play violent racing game Slaughter Race where they meet Shank, one of the game's drivers. Vanellope is taken in by what Slaughter Race has to offer over Sugar Rush and Shank becomes a big sister figure for Vanellope, making Ralph concerned that Vanellope no longer looks up to him nor will return to her game. Along the way, the two encounter new customs, worlds, and characters.

I enjoyed all the references and cameos in this movie.  And I’m looking forward to seeing it again!

One of my favorite quotes from the movie will take us into the next section - the *Spolier Section* - don’t read it if you don’t want to see any spoilers!  :)
(Come back after you’ve seen the movie and let me know your favorites!)

“Start churnin' butter and put on your church shoes, little sister, cuz we're about to blast off!”  Ralph

Humidity at Disneyland!

Humidity at Disneyland!  How to cope!

We went to Disneyland and California Adventure last week.  It was wonderful!  EXCEPT.......   It was only in the 80's - which is great for those of us from Arizona!  But the humidity was 50-60% every day!!!  It was a little miserable.......  We were not prepared.  So we bought things there - not the best idea!  :)

How is Disney's Magic Real?

I've been thinking a lot about what makes Disney magic for me.  This blog is called Disney: The Magic is Real - how is it real???

I have always had a pretty good imagination.  I'm an only child, so I played alone a lot.
When I was a kid there was a Disney show on tv every Sunday night that my Dad and I watched together - The wonderful World of Disney!  I remember that Sunday nights with my Dad meant Disney!

I went to Disneyland several times as a kid.  I lived in Utah until I was 12, but both sides of my family lived in California, so we went sometimes when we would visit them.  I always enjoyed it!

When I was a teenager we lived in Santa Monica - about 40 minutes away.  I went at least once a year with my friends.  For my 18th Birthday I got to go twice - with 2 different groups of friends!  Disneyland is what I wanted to do as an "adult"!

Peter Pan Flies!

Peter Pan's Flight is one of our favorite rides at Disneyland!  We try to ride it every time we go.   There is always a line, and there are no fast passes available for this one. It's a great ride!  But it's quick.  So don't stand in line too long for it.

Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience

Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge Experience

This was a great - and fun! - experience.  It's on top of the Launch Bay building.   The view is amazing! Especially once it gets dark and all the lights come on.  It's relaxing and laid back.  A nice break from the craziness of the Parks.

This was an experience well worth the time and money!  We would do it again!  Keep reading for more!

Disneyland Stays

Where to stay when you go to the Disneyland Resort

If you can afford to do a Disney hotel - do it!  That’s a fun thing to do!  We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel for one night in 2010 when we dropped Ali off for the Disney College Program.  They had a special deal going.  It was awesome!  I’d love to stay there again, but they haven’t had the same deal…..  :)

Disneyland Pixar Fest

We like to do the special meal deal things that go with different events - parades, fireworks, shows, etc.  On this trip we did it for the Pixar Play Parade.  The advantage to doing these is you get preferred seating at the event.  It saves us from going a couple of hours early to stake out a spot, or stand in line in the heat to get a good seat, etc.  We figure we have to eat anyway, we might as well do this and get a good seat!  Plus you get a discount as Annual Passholders - that's always a perk!

Disney's California Adventure - Pixar Fest

Pixar Fest - Now - September 3, 2018

***all info subject to change - some of this is already outdated (as of 6/9/18)

Disney's California Adventure - Pixar Fest

Chris and I just spent a fun Saturday (May12th) at Pixar Fest to celebrate Mother's Day.  We got to Anaheim around 7:00pm on Friday, so we went in to California Adventure for a couple of hours. We ate dinner and took a few pictures.  It was nice to get my excitement to see everything under control a little.  To get the initial "aaaahhhhh!!!!!!" factor out of the way.  We were able to get a look at things, then make a "plan" for the next day.  A plan is good to have - just leave some flexibility in it.  It's important to know what is really important to see.  Every time we go, whether its just the 2 of us, or a group of family or friends, we always ask everyone what they absolutely have to see/do to make this a successful trip for them.

Self-proclaimed Disney fan: an intro

I love Disney.
I am a huge fan of Disney - and especially Disneyland and California Adventure! The Disneyland Resort is my happy place.  There is magic there!  We've been many times over the years - I grew up in Santa Monica, CA and went at least once a year for years.  My husband, Chris, and I raised our kids with Disney, taking several trips as a family there, and he and I are now in our 3rd year of being Annual Passholders!  (We're empty nesters)  It's awesome!  I will share my thoughts on that in the future.  I'll share our experiences in this Blog.

We've done many different things at the resort.  I plan to share it all.  I am asked all the time what tips I have for the parks.  I'll share some of those, too.  My biggest thing is for people to be open to many different activities.  The parks have so much to offer! Shows, parades, characters, fireworks, food, etc.   Take advantage of all of it - not just the rides.  Unless that's all you want!  Who am I to boss you around?  :)  But there are so many things to see there.  I love having a well rounded experience.

Heading to the park!

My favorite characters include the Alice in Wonderland crew (especially the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter), Mickey and Minnie, Goofy, Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, Tinkerbelle, Eugene Fitzherbert, Belle, Ariel and Rapunzel.  But my very favorite characters are Mike and Sully - with an emphasis on Sully.  :)  I love the Incredibles, the characters from Up, Inside Out and Coco.  When Disneyland started Pixar Fest in April, I realized that most of my favorite characters are Pixar!  I knew I had to see it!  We live in Arizona - so it's about a 6 hour drive.  We have to do some planning.  We were planning a trip over the summer, but I really wanted to see it ASAP.  Mother's Day weekend seemed like the perfect time for a preview.  It didn't take much convincing to get Chris to agree to go with me!  :)  My next post will be about that trip.  I just wanted to introduce myself and tell you what my blog will be about.  Keep an eye out for future posts!  Thanks for your time!  :)

Have a magical day!
