Ralph Breaks the internet Review

What a fun movie!  It had the same feel as "Wreck It Ralph", but with a new story, new characters and a twist!

Towards the beginning Ralph poses an interesting question:

“Why would I wonder if there’s a better life, when the life I have is perfect?”

That's an interesting thought.  She people are happy with things staying the same, others crave change.  Hmmm.....

I enjoyed all of the cameos in it - especially all the Disney characters.  The scenes with Vanellope and the Disney Princesses had me on the floor laughing!  So funny, and imaginative!  There were many cameos that I thought were fun!  I’ll share a few in the next section of the review - it’ll be in the *Spoilers* section.  Don’t read it if you don’t want to know!  :)  Read it after you’ve seen it and let me know if you agree with me.  :)

It also has a few good messages in it.  Things we all need to remember:
  1. Yesss (a new character voiced by Taraji P. Henson) tells Ralph:  “The first rule of the internet: don’t read the comments.”  Good advice!
  2. Rapunzel, with the other Disney Princesses, asks Vanellope:  “Do people assume all your problems got solved because a big strong man showed up?”  Vanellope says “Yes!  What is up with that?”  It’s a moment that tells us that it’s a dumb idea.  Women don’t need a big, strong man to solve our problems.  But we can certainly love a big, strong man!  :)
  3. This one I will share in the *Spoiler* section (just click “Read More” below, if interested)

Just 3 things you might want to be prepared for if you’re taking kids:
  • There’s a brief burping contest.   (which is funny, but I know it bothers some people)
  • There is a glimpse of a scary clown - it creeped me out for the 3 seconds it’s on screen.  (Scary like Pennywise from “It”.  So be prepared for that if your child notices it.)
  • Double Dan from the darknet - really creepy looking - that’s the thing with the head in his neck - he’s in the preview.

In case you don’t know the plot of this one:

Plot:
Six years after the events of the first film, the steering wheel controller on the Sugar Rush game console breaks, forcing Mr. Litwak to unplug the machine. Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz evacuate all of the Sugar Rush residents to other games before it is shut down, placing the racers in the care of Fix-It Felix Jr. and Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun. Ralph and Vanellope then use the arcade's new connection to the Internet to go looking for a replacement steering wheel. While they find a source for a replacement wheel, they need money, leading them to join a free-to-play violent racing game Slaughter Race where they meet Shank, one of the game's drivers. Vanellope is taken in by what Slaughter Race has to offer over Sugar Rush and Shank becomes a big sister figure for Vanellope, making Ralph concerned that Vanellope no longer looks up to him nor will return to her game. Along the way, the two encounter new customs, worlds, and characters.

I enjoyed all the references and cameos in this movie.  And I’m looking forward to seeing it again!

One of my favorite quotes from the movie will take us into the next section - the *Spolier Section* - don’t read it if you don’t want to see any spoilers!  :)
(Come back after you’ve seen the movie and let me know your favorites!)

“Start churnin' butter and put on your church shoes, little sister, cuz we're about to blast off!”  Ralph

Some of my favorite moments:
The Twitter birds - totally hilarious!
Ralph as Bob Ross!
R2D2 tie on guy in office

Some of my favorite cameos:
Eeyore
Miranda from Miranda Sings
Stan Lee (especially in light of his death)

Some of my favorite quotes:
  • “My autofill is a touch aggressive today.”  KnowsMore (Alan Tudyk)
  • “…barefoot hobo with the broken overalls.”
  • “She’s from the other studio.”  When Merida spoke and no one could understand her.
  • “I don’t even have a mom!” Vanellope (Sarah Silverman)
    • “Neither do we!” Disney Princesses without moms!
  • “The key to parenting……
  • “…and that’s how you raise perfect children.”
Some of my favorite Princess t-shirts:
These pictures are from JFK airport - Chris and I
saw them earlier this month as we were walking through!
  • “Nap Queen” - Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)
  • “Shiny” w/ a crab - Moana
  • A poison apple - Snow White
  • “Just Let it Go” - Elsa
  • “Finish Each Other’s Sandwiches” - Anna
The 3rd message of the movie - Ralph learned that he and Vanellope can still be friends, even when she chooses to stay with Slaughter Race.  FaceTime makes it so much easier. And they can visit.  It’s a good message for kids!  It’s hard when a friend moves away, but it’s something you can handle!

  1. Yes!!!! I want all those princess tee shirts! I died laughing at the Bob Ross thing too - that was my favorite part! I thought the messages were so important, kids (and us) can struggle with sharing friends. I too love a big strong guy, even if I don't always need to be rescued. But a little help now and then is always appreciated haha
